Pie Birds

A pie bird (also known as a pie vent, pie whistle, pie funnel or pie chimney), is a ceramic device with a hollow middle that supports the mid-portion of the crust of a pie, and allows steam to escape through the 'beak' of the pie bird, preventing boil-over of the pie filling.  Pie birds originated in Europe in Victorian times, and were used to support fruit and meat pies.

I'm hoping that these little birds will prevent boil-over of my Strawberry-Rhubarb pies.  Will report later on the success of this!
