Late Snow on the Second Day of Spring!

Friday morning, we awoke to four inches of snow here in Maltby!  So much for Spring!

The Beauty of Flowers

"Flowers are words which even a baby can understand."  A. Cleveland Coxe, 1818-1896, American Theologian and Composer

Isn't this a wonderful time of year, when spring is waking up after a long, cold winter?  Isn't every flower a miracle, dotting the previously barren landscape?

Even the simplest flower, such as  yellow daffodils or white cherry blossoms, move the soul.  Thoreau believed that spring was the proof of immortality, when the cold, sleepy world awakes to splendor after a death-like sleep.

There are signs all around me today of spring--rhubarb pushing up through the garden soil, primroses braving a late snow, winter pansies and violas in baskets, waiting for warmer weather to grow and flourish. There are Orchard Mason Bees sleeping in 'bee condos' on the side of the woodshed, waiting for just one week of temperatures over 55 degrees before they venture out and pollinate an area one mile wide.

Ah,  Spring!!!

Honey Wheat Bread for Saturday Dinner

Here's a lovely homemade loaf of honey wheat bread to go with my homemade spaghetti sauce with Isernio Italian sausages.  We had a feast Saturday night, with a large salad made with organic vegetables, and homemade apple pie with Salted Caramel ice cream from Snoqualmie  Gourmet Ice Cream in Maltby.

March 6--The Yakima Market Opened in Bothell!

Each year, the opening of the Yakima Market is my own 'official' first day of Spring!  I got up extra early, and stopped at the market on my way to work (they open at 7 a.m.).  I was there shortly after opening, and got a shopping cart and started to fill it up with the things I wanted most.

I ended up with two viola baskets, two pink Heather, and two ferns.  I went back the next day for three bunches of white tulips.

Doesn't  this look like Spring to you?

First Flowers of Spring

I spotted these beautiful crocus at Woodinville's Gateway Park last weekend during the beautiful Saturday weather!  It got up to 62 degrees!  You could really feel Spring in the air.
