Petunias, Birdhouses, and Geraniums

Here's a corner of my pasture that has been previously neglected over the years.  Since I recently cleaned out my greenhouse and painted the floor red, I decided to add some flowers and a birdhouse outside of the structure.  Looks festive!

Summer Flowers

I LOVE flower baskets, and usually have about 40 in my yard each year (I know, I know....excess, excess...).  But this year, I cut down dramatically so I don't have to spend all summer watering them!

Here is my favorite basket, and a container of zinnias.  It's so nice to have the time to enjoy my house, the yard, and all of my flowers and gardens.

Bing Cherries

In the 12 years that we have had a three-in-one cherry tree (Bing, Royal Anne, and pie cherries all grafted onto the same tree), we have never had such a huge crop of each variety of cherry!  Look at these Bing cherries!  They are so beautiful.  The ones way at the top of the tree are for the birds to enjoy.

Edmonds Art Fair 2015

We never miss the Edmonds Art Fair!  It's a lovely location near the water, and it's fairly small compared to other art fairs in the Seattle area.  The art is affordable, and it's so much fun to eat lunch when we get there, and then stroll through the lanes and take it all in.

Here is my piece of art for 2015.  It will be going in the Scamp!

Henry the Chicken

When you live in Maltby, you don't think anything about seeing a chicken outside of a local mini-mart, waiting for his owner to come out of the store.  I LOVE the Slow Life!

A New "Glamping" Apron

Look at this great apron I found on Etsy!  I ordered one last week, and it just arrived.  The combination of fabrics is just beautiful, and it looks good on me, and in the trailer!

I'll be cooking up a storm in our trailer and camping spot in this beauty!

The Scamp Comes Home!

After six months of storing the scamp in a field at a farm behind our property, we finally went and retrieved the Scamp last week and brought her home.  We still have some work to do to get her fully ready for our summer travels.

We had to remove our pergola that graces the entrance to our large back pasture, as the air conditioner was about 8 inches too high to clear it.  We will alter it somewhat and find a way to remove the top of it so we can easily move the trailer in and out when needed.

Here is "Beach Music" in her new location, under the cherry tree.  This spot allows us to back up the truck and pull straight out of the yard for our next trip.

Today I washed the trailer exterior with some "Crystal Bright" RV cleaner/polish.  She looks beautiful!  Next project is to replace the original (old and yukky) carpet with "peel and stick" flooring.

Thursday Evenings with Kaila

After I travel from Maltby to Lynnwood on Thursday evenings to give Kai her piano lesson, we get in my car and travel to Mukilteo, where my son lives.  Since she spends half of the week with her mother and half with her father, Thursday night is the night of the switch.  We spend the trip home talking about music, and then stop at one of three ice cream shops near Dave's home on Harbour Pointe Drive.

Last week, we had frozen yogurt at a fantastic candy and ice cream shop.  You pick your own flavor of yogurt, and then top it with a huge array of sauces, candies, and fruit.  It's just what we need to pick us up after a long day!

A Field of Flowers

When Polly and I take our daily walk over to see the horses, we pass this beautiful abandoned field behind our house.  This year, it's filled with wild daisies.  It's fills one with awe to stand at the fence and gaze upon such uncultivated loveliness.  No gardener's hand directs their shape, or improves upon their beauty.

The Wonder of Pie

What is it about sharing a home-made pie that is so delightful?  Is it the fact that someone went to all the trouble to drive to a local farm and pick the berries early one spring morning?  Is it the fact that a home-made pie crust was mixed and kneaded and rolled out to line the pie plate?  And the perfect, sweet berries were mixed into a glace and poured over cream cheese?

Our friend and neighbor Roberta did all of these things!  And then she came to our house and gave us two huge pieces of this incredible dessert!

This is one of the many reasons we love The Slow Life in Maltby (and the reason our neighbors are not only our neighbors, but they are our friends!).  These are the moments in Life that we truly savor.

Thank you, Roberta, for an unforgettable pie!
