Mt. Baker/Snoqualmie National Forest

We thought we'd beat the heat today by driving up to the Mt. Baker/Snoqualmie Forest area east of Granite Falls.  It was a little cooler, but not much (around 80 degrees).  However, it was as beautiful as ever.  We picked up sandwiches in Granite Falls, and headed east to Turlo Creek and Verlot camp grounds.  Both were full of campers, so we kept driving on the Mountain Loop Highway until we got to Hemple Creek picnic area.  We had a lovely meal sitting at a picnic table by the north fork of the Stillaguamish River.

My family camped at Verlot and Turlo when I was a kid, and it brought back so many memories of those years.

The third picture below is the first camp site as you enter Turlo Creek, which was my Dad's favorite site--the place for the tent was level and hidden behind the trees, right along the river.
